Which Thread Lift Is the Best? Silhouette InstaLift® Vs. NovaThreads

If you’re looking to refresh and rejuvenate your facial appearance by addressing loose skin and volume loss, you might be considering facelift surgery. This go-to plastic surgery procedure can turn back the clock on facial aging. However, it is a surgical procedure that usually involves general anesthesia and significant downtime as well as surgical costs like operating room fees and surgeon’s fees.

If you’re interested in a nonsurgical alternative to facelift surgery, a thread lift (also known as a thread facelift) might be the ideal procedure for you.

What Are Thread Facelift Treatments?

Minimally invasive thread lifts involve tiny sutures (“threads”) inserted into the face that lift sagging and promote new collagen growth for tighter, firmer and more elevated facial tissues. At California Dermatology Care, we offer the Silhouette InstaLift® and NovaThreads thread lift procedures.

This blog explains the difference between the two thread lift options and can help you consider which one might be right for you. Our experts can go over these in detail at your consultation and help you choose the best thread lift procedure for your aesthetic needs and goals.

How Are the Silhouette InstaLift and NovaThreads Similar?

FDA Approved

Both the Silhouette InstaLift and NovaThreads are FDA approved to lift drooping facial tissue.

Quick In-Office Procedures

These facial rejuvenation treatments can be performed in the comfort of our office with local anesthesia in just 30 minutes to an hour.

No Incisions

The Silhouette InstaLift threads and NovaThreads are inserted through the skin with a small hollow tool similar to a needle, which means no incisions are needed. The needles are inserted into the subdermal tissue with the threads inside them, and then the needles are removed to leave the threads in the treatment area.

Fast Results and No Downtime

Both thread facelift procedures offer immediate and natural-looking results without requiring any downtime after treatment.

How Are the Silhouette InstaLift and NovaThreads Different?

Thread Lift Material: Silhouette InstaLift Vs. NovaThreads

Silhouette InstaLift Material: PLLA and PGA

The Silhouette InstaLift threads are made of biodegradable sugar materials poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and polyglycolic acid (PGA). These threads will dissolve and be safely absorbed by your body over the course of six to 18 months without leaving scar tissue, and they will stimulate your skin to produce rejuvenating collagen fibers.

NovaThreads Material: PDO

NovaThreads are made of polydioxanone (PDO), a biodegradable synthetic polymer. These PDO threads dissolve within four to six months and stimulate the production of collagen within the skin without creating any scar tissue.

Thread Design: Silhouette InstaLift Vs. NovaThreads

Silhouette InstaLift Uses Micro-Cones

The Micro-Suspension Technology™ of the Silhouette InstaLift uses threads with tiny cones (micro-cones) along them. Once the threads are inserted beneath the skin, the cones grasp and lift the tissue when pulled in the opposite direction.

This suture design can achieve a significant lift for drooping facial tissue, but it doesn’t stimulate as much collagen as the design of the NovaThreads.

NovaThreads Are Smooth, Twisted or Barbed

There are three thread shapes available with the NovaThreads: smooth, twisted and barbed. These various thread shapes have different indications, and we can determine the right one for you based on your skin concerns and desired treatment area.

In general, the smooth and twisted threads are great for adding volume to smooth and support the skin with collagen stimulation. The barbed threads are ideal for skin tightening and lifting, but the extent of the lift isn’t as dramatic as what can be achieved with the InstaLift.

What Areas Can Be Addressed With the Silhouette InstaLift Vs. NovaThreads?

Silhouette InstaLift for the Cheeks and Jowls

Because of its ability to significantly lift sagging tissues, the Silhouette InstaLift is designed for areas with deep volume loss and drooping like the cheeks and jawline.

This thread lift can restore cheeks that have become gaunt from fallen tissue and fat loss. It can also be used to elevate hanging tissue along the jawline to rejuvenate sagging jowls.

NovaThreads for the Eyebrows, Forehead, Lips/Mouth, Neck and Chest

NovaThreads can lift drooping brows and smooth a wrinkled forehead. Collagen stimulation from the NovaThreads can also raise the corners of the mouth and smooth the skin around the lips. Additionally, this thread lift option can restore firmer, smoother neck and upper chest (décolletage) contours.

NovaThreads can also address mild to moderate cheek and jawline laxity, but they can’t treat severe sagging.

Which Thread Lift Lasts the Longest, Silhouette InstaLift or NovaThreads?

Length of Silhouette InstaLift Results

The Silhouette InstaLift can provide results that last one to three years.

Length of NovaThreads Results

NovaThreads generally lift and help the skin maintain its new structure for 18 months or more.

How Much Does the Silhouette InstaLift Vs. NovaThreads Cost?

The cost of your thread lift treatment will vary depending on the target area(s), how many sutures are needed, the geographic location where you get your treatment and various other factors. At your consultation, we can evaluate your concerns and provide you with specific pricing for your thread lift.

Silhouette InstaLift Cost

For 10 threads of the Silhouette InstaLift, the cost is generally around $3,000. This amount is typically enough threads to treat either the cheeks or jawline.

NovaThreads Cost

To address wrinkles and laxity in the lower face, the PDO NovaThreads generally cost about $1,750. The price to address the neck and chest is also approximately $1,750. Patients who would like to address their lower face and neck can treat both of these areas with NovaThreads for $2,750.
