Botox, Dysport, Xeomin or Jeuveau for Wrinkles and Excessive Sweating
Due to the stress of life in general, some of our facial muscles along the upper half of the face are under constant contraction. Botulinum toxin injections, known as neuromodulators, help relax these facial muscles, bringing about a relaxed and rejuvenated appearance.
They provide a dramatic reduction in dynamic wrinkles, including the vertical frown lines or anger lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines, crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes, and more. They can also be used to treat excessive sweating in the underarms and on the hands. Our advanced injection techniques mean we can also help shape the face for subtle rejuvenation.
At California Dermatology Care of the Bay Area, we offer several of the best neuromodulators on the market: Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin. Each of these products can help alleviate signs of aging by ridding your skin of certain lines and wrinkles. If you are a resident of the Bay Area and are interested in learning more about neuromodulators, please get in touch with us at (925) 328-0255 or fill out our online contact form.

WHAT IS BOTOX, DYSPORT, JEUVEAU OR XEOMIN COSMETIC?
Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau or Xeomin treatments are simple and virtually painless neuromodulators that will be administered by Dr. Ting or any one of our qualified injectors. Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau or Xeomin is a simple, nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people from 18 years of age and older.
When Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau or Xeomin is injected properly by an experienced, Board Certified Dermatologist, it dramatically reduces lines without taking away your ability to express yourself fully. Our expert injectors will ensure that you look refreshed without appearing frozen.
Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin are purified proteins produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. When injected, the active ingredient blocks the nerves signaling muscle movement in the treated area, reducing the activity of the muscles that cause those unwanted lines to form over time.
Over four million injection procedures are performed with FDA-approved Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin each year in the United States. These products have a long and well-studied track record of safety and efficacy.
HOW DOES BOTOX COSMETIC, DYSPORT, JEUVEAU OR XEOMIN WORK?
The lines that appear between your brows (glabellar lines) actually result from muscle movement and the passage of time. You may have heard the expression “wearing your emotions on your sleeve,” but in reality, you wear them on your face. If you’re angry or annoyed, for example, you knit your brows together. Underneath your skin, your facial muscles contract, cause a pleating of the overlying skin, and then, as anyone can see, you’re frowning.
After years of crinkling and wrinkling, those glabellar lines start to linger longer and can become more pronounced. Glabellar lines are one example of a subset of wrinkles that can be treated with an injection of one of the neuromodulators. Glabellar lines are considered dynamic wrinkles, which are lines and wrinkles associated with frequent facial movements. Other lines and wrinkles that fall into this category include smile lines and crow’s feet. For women, whose faces tend to be more animated than men’s and whose skin is typically more delicate, these lines may appear exaggerated and more permanent earlier in life.
Fortunately, there is a way to temporarily reduce moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles. Treatment with Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, Jeuveau or Xeomin can visibly smooth and soften moderate to severe frown lines between your brows. An improvement can be seen within days and can last up to three months, although results may vary. In clinical trials, nearly 90 percent of men and women surveyed rated the improvement in the appearance of frown lines between their brows as moderate to better one month after treatment. However, most patients can see results in less than two weeks.
Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin work to reduce the appearance of all dynamic wrinkles that form in a similar fashion to frown lines and can also be used to improve the look of a number of other facial features.
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BOTOX, DYSPORT, JEUVEAU OR XEOMIN?
Men and women of any skin type who struggle with their appearance because of wrinkles make excellent candidates for any of these neuromodulators. The treatment can effectively help correct signs of age that are related to frequent muscle movements. Additionally, these injectables are not age-restrictive, meaning they can be used effectively as a preventative measure for staving off the formation of wrinkles. The young and old generation can all experience the benefits of Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau or Xeomin.
However, some contraindications may prevent you from being a suitable candidate for certain neuromodulators. Botox and Dysport, for example, consist of an accessory protein that can potentially result in an allergic reaction. These neuromodulators can also potentially lose their efficacy if performed frequently. Thankfully, Xeomin is a neuromodulator that contains no accessory protein, meaning it does not pose the risk for causing an allergic reaction and can be successfully performed on patients who no longer respond to other neuromodulators.
During an initial consultation, your cosmetic concerns and current health will be assessed and reviewed to determine which neuromodulator best suits your needs and ensure candidacy.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A NEUROMODULATOR TREATMENT?
When you visit California Dermatology Care for a neuromodulator treatment, your desired areas for treatment will be analyzed and assessed to determine which muscles will benefit the most from an injection. Once determined, your neuromodulator provider will cleanse the treatment site. Your provider will then begin injecting your chosen neuromodulator into the muscle, utilizing an ultra-fine needle. The treatment is a generally tolerable experience and virtually pain-free. Despite this, a slight tingling sensation may be felt. A topical anesthetic may be used to help mitigate any discomfort.
When the neuromodulator reaches your muscle, it will prevent nerve receptors within the muscle from receiving signals to move. A neuromodulator treatment lasts for approximately 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the severity of your concerns and how many injections are performed.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY PROCESS LIKE?
After your treatment, you may experience redness or swelling around the treatment site, which are normal side effects. These common side effects tend to subside after approximately one to two days. The treatment requires no downtime, meaning you can return to daily activities immediately afterward. A neuromodulator injection is often referred to as a ‘lunchtime procedure’ because the treatment can be completed in less time than a lunch break for work, and you can return to work right afterward.
WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?
Depending on the type of Botulinum toxin injectable used, results can be seen within two to 10 days for most patients, although results may take up to two weeks to appear in some cases. Results for a Botox injection take approximately one to two days to appear, while results for an injection like Dysport can occur in a relatively shorter time frame.
Results are temporary, and their longevity depends on how your body naturally reacts to them. Typically, they last approximately three months for patients, although some patients have reported more prolonged-term efficacy. Subsequent neuromodulator injection treatments can be scheduled if you desire to keep your results.
ARE NEUROMODULATORS SAFE?
There are very few risks or complications associated with neuromodulators. However, as with any treatment or procedure, there is always a risk for some risks. Aside from more common side effects, including redness and swelling after injection, some more uncommon side effects include headaches, pain near the injection site, vision problems and dry mouth. However, these side effects are infrequent, especially when performed under the guidance of an experienced injector. During an initial consultation at California Dermatology Care, these risks and potential side effects will be thoroughly reviewed with you. Patient safety is very important to us, and we want you to make a fully informed decision before officially undergoing your neuromodulator treatment.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NEUROMODULATORS AND FILLERS?
Neuromodulators are neurotoxins that are utilized to treat cosmetic concerns related to facial movements. In contrast, dermal fillers such as Restylane and Radiesse are used to treat cosmetic concerns related to the body’s natural production decline of collagen, a substance the body produces to maintain skin firmness and elasticity. The lines and wrinkles that these two products treat often get confused. As mentioned, neuromodulators treat dynamic wrinkles specifically, while dermal fillers are utilized to treat static wrinkles associated with the natural aging process.
During an initial consultation, your lines and wrinkles will be assessed to determine if they are static or dynamic wrinkles. Often, neuromodulators and dermal fillers are combined to achieve truly comprehensive results, creating an overall more youthful and energetic look.
WILL I BE ABLE TO MAKE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS?
After treatment with Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau or Xeomin, you may look in the mirror and see a marked improvement in the targeted area. But Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin will not radically change your facial appearance. You can still frown, smile or look surprised— just without the wrinkles and creases that would otherwise have formed.
SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION AT CALIFORNIA DERMATOLOGY CARE
It’s frustrating to know that your facial muscles can contribute to cosmetic concerns. Gradually, frequent facial movements result in dynamic wrinkles, which can form in such areas as between your eyebrows, along your mouth and at the sides of your eyes. While it may seem as though you need to settle with dynamic wrinkles, you do not have to. A neuromodulator injection can help alleviate these concerns or act as a preventative measure.
At California Dermatology Care, we utilize Botox, Dysport, Jeaveu and Xeomin, some of the best neuromodulators on the market. If you are interested in scheduling a neuromodulator consultation and are a resident of the Bay Area, please get in touch with us at (925) 328-0255 or schedule an appointment online.
Results may vary. If you do not continue treatments, the lines may gradually look like they did before. Check out results for a nonsurgical brow lift.
