Dr. William Ting is one of the nationally recognized experts in Micro Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing drawing patients and physician trainees all over the Bay Area, California, across the U.S.A. and abroad. Most recently during month of November 2012, Dr. Ting moderated a physician educational webinar titled “Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing for ethnic skin type skin”. For the past several years, he has performed several hundred cases including significant number of ethnic skin individuals. With his Electrical Engineering undergraduate background at UC Berkeley and understanding of the laser optics, he has mastered the subtleties of cosmetic and therapeutic lasers.

Dr. Ting has extensive clinical experience in treating virtually all skin types and various indications such as acne scarring, rejuvenation, and chemoprevention of skin cancer. He utilizes a team approach in customizing detailed pre-op and post-op care regimen to optimize the efficacy and tolerability of Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing. Consultation is required with both Dr. Ting and patient coordinator to review benefits and steps to be taken to minimize potential complications, as well as the logistics of the procedure. You can choose either Dr. Ting or Annie Regan, PA to perform the Micro Fractional CO2 Laser resurfacing.

The old CO2 Laser Resurfacing had been the gold standard in skin resurfacing for the past couple decades as it achieved unparallel smoothness and reduction of wrinkle that no other modality can match. However, it has fallen out of favor because of significant pain requiring general anesthesia and substantial down time with the complexion appearing bloody raw for at least couple weeks.

The FRACTIONAL technology delivers the CO2 laser energy in a pixel like fashion where microscopic holes 0.3mm are punched into the skin right next to each other via computer-generated pattern. This fractionated CO2 laser technology delivers microscopic columns of 10600nm CO2 laser energy across the skin barrier, penetrating 5-40% of skin surface area (depending on discretion of Dr. Ting) right next to each other. The other non-ablated skin surface areas facilitate faster healing. Fraxel Restore, Pixel, and Pearl non-CO2 based lasers all have the right idea of fractionated laser delivery but with the wrong wavelengths thus requiring 5-6 treatments and likely inferior clinical outcome compared with one treatment of Micro Fractional CO2 laser technology. A recent study confirmed that the fractional CO2 deep dermal ablation resulted in collagen remodeling for at least three months after treatment, as determined by immunohistochemical analysis of heat shock proteins.

Micro Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing achieves true resurfacing efficacy with comfort. Cosmetic appearance may continue to improve up to 6 months due to continued collagen production. Dr. Ting and staff have put together time-tested pre-op and post-op protocols that will maximize clinical efficacy and minimize potential complications. Minimal discomfort as all patients will be given mild sedation in addition to topical anesthetics and nerve blocks. Downtime is quite manageable, averaging 5-7 days. We have the expertise to perform Micro Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing in a safe and effective fashion
for virtually all skin surface areas including face, neck, chest, back, arms and hands.

The Fractional CO2 laser procedure potentially may pay for itself with less need of fillers for wrinkles and age lines, and possible reduction of skin cancer risks in treated areas. The procedure may also be eligible for employers’ medical flexible spending account (FSA) depending pre-existing medical condition, e.g. psychosocial detriment of acne scarring, actinic damage with prior history of skin cancer.

CO2 Plus Treatment Protocol for Acne Scarring and Rejuvenation exclusive at California Dermatology Care

Dr. Ting at California Dermatology Care has advanced the clinical outcome of Micro Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing to another frontier by combining Fractional CO2 Laser resurfacing with Cutera’s GenesisPlus Laser. Dr. Ting recommends 3 to 6 additional GenesisPlus laser (2 to 4 weeks apart) starting one month after Micro Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing to:
– further stimulate additional collagen production and scar revision
– better achieve effective pore size reduction
– facilitate resolution of post-treatment pigmentation or redness
