What Is SKINVIVE™?
SKINVIVE™ is the first and only hyaluronic acid microdroplet injectable. It is a unique product designed by JUVÉDERM® to improve skin smoothness, softness and glow in the cheek area. The product is injected into the top layer of the skin (called the epidermis) to provide hydration from within.
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers normally work by adding volume to the skin, filling in wrinkles and facial hollows and providing plumpness where needed. But SKINVIVE™ is different. Instead of volumizing, this treatment improves the quality of your skin. This is why it is often called a skin booster or injectable moisturizer. The result is a more youthful glow and greater skin smoothness.
SKINVIVE™ has been FDA-approved to improve cheek skin smoothness in anyone over 21 years of age. Once injected into the epidermis, the effects of this treatment become visible within three to four weeks and can last for up to six months.
How Does SKINVIVE™ Work?
Dermal fillers normally have a gel-like texture and significant amounts of hyaluronic acid to provide visible filling and lift to the skin. SKINVIVE™, on the other hand, has a more watery texture and is delivered in microdroplet amounts into the skin. This unique formula allows the product to diffuse evenly across the epidermis where it provides increased hydration.

The SKINVIVE™ Treatment Process
The SKINVIVE™ process starts with an initial consultation at California Dermatology Care. One of our providers will talk to you about your concerns, discuss your treatment goals and examine your skin. They may also quickly review your medical history to make sure this treatment is safe for you.
The treatment can be performed immediately in the office or at a later date if needed. You will be sitting in a reclined chair during this procedure. Your provider will first cleanse your skin and then apply a topical anesthetic. They will map out the ideal injection sites in your cheek area to help distribute the product evenly.
Once the anesthetic kicks in, your provider will inject about two syringes of the product across your cheek area into the epidermis, which is the superficial layer of your skin. The treatment takes only about 15 minutes from start to finish.
SKINVIVE™ Recovery and Results
There is no downtime needed after SKINVIVE™. You can go about your day as usual immediately after the treatment. However, it is a good idea to avoid excessive direct sunlight, strenuous exercise, alcohol and exposure to heat for the first one to two days to avoid irritating the injected areas.
Most patients experience only mild side effects, like temporary swelling, bruising and discomfort. These usually resolve within a week.
Your results will not become noticeable until three to four weeks have passed, which is how long it takes for the hyaluronic acid to attract water. Your results will then gradually become more noticeable, and you will be able to enjoy them for many months.
Am I a Good Candidate?
If you have visible signs of aging in the cheek area — such as dullness, fine lines and dryness — you are probably a good candidate for this treatment. Nearly anyone can be treated with SKINVIVE™, no matter their skin tone and type. However, the treatment is contraindicated in people with a history of severe allergies with anaphylaxis or a known allergy to lidocaine (a numbing agent added to SKINVIVE™).
