Facial veins and redness are brought upon by vasodilation of fine capillaries, most commonly seen in the setting of acne rosacea and sun damage. There are a variety of different triggers, most important of which is sun exposure. Other common exacerbating factors include heat, alcohol, caffeine, spicy foods, hot beverages, etc. Just about anything that brings about prolonged facial flushing may bring back facial veins or telangiectasias even after they have been treated. Some families (e.g. Northern Europeans) are more genetically predisposed to have a ‘Celtic Complexion’ along with facial veins.
